Kicks from 'Cats: The Andrew Lovedale Shoe Drive

“We live in a world where everyone seems to want something, but no one is willing to give,” said Andrew Lovedale. “I feel like with the way things are back home with development, if everyone just gives, then we would probably be able to get out of this slump. Hopefully when you take stuff home, it will awaken two or more people that will want to give back, too, and that’s how it all starts.”

Goal: $3,500 * Raised To Date: $3,500!! * Goal Achieved!!!!!

A Huge Thanks to Everyone Who Donated!

As part of “Kicks from ‘Cats: The Andrew Lovedale Shoe Drive,” the Davidson basketball community, in conjunction with the Christian, Charlotte-based charity Samaritan’s Feet, has collected 10,500 pairs of shoes and thousands of dollars to ship the 40-ft. container that will hold them, along with jerseys, basketballs and other gear to Nigeria.

This summer, June 5-15, I will be part of a team that will visit Andrew’s home country to distribute the shoes and other gear, visiting Benin City, Andrew’s hometown, as well as Lagos, Nigeria.

In order to do so, I must raise $3,500 to cover travel expenses, food and lodging. To meet this goal, I need your financial support, in honor of this very special cause and very special person, Andrew Lovedale.

I met Andrew, a star forward on the Davidson men’s basketball team with a deep faith in God, just under three years ago. As an assistant director of sports information, it is my job to tell the stories of our student-athletes, and the stories don’t get much better than this.

Andrew’s journey began in Benin City, Nigeria, and he was given the opportunity to play basketball at a prep school in England, and eventually, at Davidson College. He never forgot his roots, and as a freshman, he began taking discarded practice gear and basketball shoes home every summer after.

What started with Andrew packing his and his teammate’s old shoes into his own bags became something much larger this winter, when the Davidson community fully embraced his cause.

This June, I would love to be a part of helping Andrew complete his mission, and for that, I need your help.

I know these are tough economic times, but even in our uncertainty, we have shoes on our feet, which is not the case for those your donation will help. Your contribution, however large or small in dollar amounts, is great in value, and you champion a worthy cause.

If you have more questions, visit Samaritan’s Feet at www.samaritansfeet.org.

Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution. Make all checks payable to Samaritan’s Feet and put my name on the memo line.

No gift is too small or too great. If 140 people give just $25, I will have met my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated.

And while financial support is extremely important and greatly appreciated, I covet your prayer support as well. In order for this trip to be as successful as possible, I need a team of people behind me emotionally and spiritually. If you would like to follow along, I hope to post continual updates on the journey before before, during and after the trip at my blog housed here.
Thank you SO much for your generosity,
Lauren
